Foreign Languages at Shire Oak

At Shire Oak we follow the National Curriculum for teaching languages. We teach the modern foreign language of French throughout KS2 in weekly sessions taught by a fluent French speaker. She uses materials from the Sunderland scheme as well as our own resources, including phonics work, writing activities, songs and games. Class teachers are supported to supplement this weekly session with songs, games, stories and practice for sharing in assemblies, etc. In KS1 (and throughout school) the languages spoken by our community and beyond are explored, respected and celebrated. This includes morning greetings in other languages, discovering vocabulary linked to other learning in school and assemblies and showing an interest in each other's languages.
