Joining Us At Shire Oak
Admissions
We are a Voluntary Controlled School and the admission authority is Leeds City Council. Here is information about applying for school places in Leeds schools (whether to start in Reception in September or to join the school at another point.) If you are looking for a place for a child who is not due to start Reception Class in September you may contact us directly to find out about available spaces in specific year groups.
Leeds City Council have now determined priority catchment areas to help parents understand where their nearest school is (apart from academies, free schools, voluntary aided schools and any others that are their own admissions authority). You can see our catchment map by following the link on the council's page for Shire Oak.
The admissions team at Leeds City Council have made a video to show parents how to apply for places in Reception Class. https://youtu.be/WRU1SrS7iJE
Should you wish to apply for a place, the information you need is available here in our Admissions Information for 2024 - 2025.

We host several Open Mornings throughout the year. Provisionally, our next Open Mornings will be on:
Tuesday 19th November 2024 from 9.15 - 11.15am
Thursday 9th January 2025 from 9.15 - 11.15am
(These are both drop-in sessions).
During the morning our older children will be conducting tours of school and parents from FOSOPS (Friends of Shire Oak Primary School) will be serving refreshments and answering any questions you would like to ask them. We feel that this helps to give a very honest picture of life at our school.
We also offer a virtual open day for for people who can't join us at our daytime event.

If you cannot make it to our Open Morning, but would like to arrange a visit to school on another day, please do get in touch as the headteacher is happy to meet parents and arrange tours of school when you can see the children learning.
